On the night of September 4, 1978, 13-year-old Scott and 8-year-old Amy Fandel vanished from their Alaska cabin.  When their mother and aunt returned, they found a pot of boiling water, an open can of tomatoes, and a package of macaroni on the counter, suggesting Scott had been interrupted while preparing a snack.  The family initially assumed the children were at a neighbor's house.  It wasn’t until their aunt realized the following day that they hadn't been at the neighbor’s or school that their mother called the police.  Bullet casings found outside the cabin were found during the search, but their relevance to the case remains unknown.
