Private Thomas Edmundson was killed in action near Ypres on April 26, 1915, just seven days after he shipped out with the Durham Light Infantry. The 20-year-old was on Wednesday buried at Perth Cemetery in Ypres with full military honours alongside other previously unknown soldiers. Edmundson and his battalion plugged a gap on the front line near the town of Zonnebeke where the Germans were expected to attack. Another part of the line was attacked but Edmunson's position was hit by artillery bombardment and he and seven others were killed.
