The Man Who Woke Up at His Own Funeral

“In Paraguay, a man named Vilmar S. woke up during his own funeral after being wrongly declared dead. He started moving in the body bag — shocking mourners mid-prayer.”

He was declared dead and was being buried, the boy shocks his family when he appears before them

A boy declared dead in Paraguay has shocked his grieving family. Juan Ramon Alfonso Penayo, returned home to find family members mourning his death after a burned body was mistakenly identified by police.

The boy had been missing from home in the village of Santa Teresa for several days, and police discovered the remains of a burned body. Since the body could not be identified, police thought it might be Penayo.

The family, devastated by grief, was holding a funeral service when the 20-year-old returned home to find his loved ones mourning his death. Drug gangs operated in the area, so officials feared Penayo was involved with them and his end was horrendous.

When police found the unidentifiable burned body, they concluded it was Penayo's, and his family organized the funeral and buried the remains.

A young man gave his grieving family the shock of their lives when he suddenly walked into the wake they were holding in his honor.
The incident occurred in the village of Santa Teresa in the eastern Paraguayan department of Amambay.
Twenty-year-old Juan Ramon Alfonso Penayo returned home after he had last been seen several days earlier, and found his family and friends mourning his death.
Police had earlier discovered the gruesome remains of a burned body that could not be identified, and family members believed it was Penayo.
As drug gangs operate in the area, they feared that he had become embroiled in trouble and met an untimely end.
Organized crime specialist Candido Figueredo told local media that Penayo left his home on Thursday last week and did not come back.
When the police found the unidentifiable burnt body, it was concluded that it was Penayo and his family organized the funeral and buried the remains.
However, they were stunned to see him casually walk into the house in the middle of the wake they were holding for him.
Areas of northern Paraguay's Amambay Department, which borders the Midwestern state of Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil, are hotly contested between rival drug organizations, according to official sources.
Reports suggest that there is little border control in the Region, making it an attractive territory for traffickers.
