In 2015, a graphic video hit the internet and shocked the public. ISIS produced a short film that depicts a 26-year-old man - captured Jordanian pilot Muadh al-Kasasbeh - locked in a cage in what appears to be a sedated state.

The prisoner, apparently doused in some sort of flammable liquid, is then set on fire.

This is an execution method that ISIS has found to be effective in its brutality. Another video, this time of two Turkish soldiers, was released in December 2016 and depicted the two men being lit on fire in the desert.

Witness reports from war-torn Iraq and Syria also indicate this practice is carried out with great frequency off-camera.
